Syriac Union Party commemorates arrest of leader Saeed Malke in ceremony in Qabre Hewore, North and East Syria

QABRE HEWORE, North and East Syria — The Syriac Union Party (SUP) held a commemorative event at its headquarters in Qabre Hewore (Qahtaniyah), in the countryside of Zalin (Qamishli), North and East Syria, to honor the legacy of leader Saeed Malke on the 11th anniversary of his arrest. The ceremony saw the participation of representatives from the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES), members of the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB), and the local community.

The event began with a solemn minute of silence in memory of martyrs. Adeeb Shabo, a member of the SUP, spoke about Saeed Malke’s relentless efforts to secure the national rights of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people in their homeland of Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia). Shabo called on the international community to intervene and help uncover his fate.

During the ceremony, Syriac Press interviewed SUP Co-Chair Shamiram Danho, who described Malke as a symbol of sacrifice. She emphasized his dedication to securing the rights of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people, ensuring they could live freely with their culture and history intact in Beth Nahrin. Danho pledged to continue following in Malke’s footsteps.

Kabi Esho, a member of the Syriac Cultural Association, also spoke with Syriac Press, calling for the release of Saeed Malke and all detainees held by the Syrian regime.

The ceremony concluded with the screening of a documentary film chronicling Saeed Malke’s life and his pivotal role in the struggle for the rights of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community.
