Syrian Democratic Council meeting addresses escalating Syrian conflict and regional tensions

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — In response to recent demonstrations condemning the Syrian regime’s attacks on Dayro Zcuro (Deir ez-Zor), the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) of North and East Syria held a meeting to evaluate the political situation in the region.

The meeting, attended by SDC Co-Chairs Leila Karaman and Mahmoud al-Muslat, along with Deputy Co-Chairs and office leaders, began with an analysis of the current political climate.

Participants highlighted the growing intensity of global conflicts, including the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the growing conflict between Israel and Iran and its regional allies. The discussion also focused on the Syrian regime’s recent attacks on Dayro Zcuro, which the SDC leadership stated are aimed at undermining the region’s security and democratic model.

The meeting further warned that these attacks could pave the way for Turkey to escalate its offensive operations in North and East Syria and potentially boost Islamic State (ISIS) activities in the area.

Regarding the possibility for rapprochement between Turkey and the Syrian regime, the SDC noted that while both governments share hostility towards North and East Syria, they are unlikely to find common ground on other issues. The discussion also touched on the ongoing protests in As-Suwayda, which have lasted nearly a year, as well as demonstrations against Turkey and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) in northwestern Syria.

The SDC Co-Chairs reiterated that a political solution is the key to resolving the Syrian crisis and emphasized the importance of preserving Syrian national unity and solidarity among the people.
