Human rights group Community Peacemaker Teams reveals over two decades of human and material losses in Kurdistan Region of Iraq due to Turkish and Iranian attacks
SULAYMANIYAH, Kurdistan Region of Iraq — Human rights group Community Peacemaker Teams (CPT) disclosed the extensive human and material losses suffered by the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) caused by ongoing Turkish and Iranian military operations from 1991 until June of this year.
Omar Othman, head of the human rights department at CPT, addressed the media in a press conference held in Sulaymaniyah, KRI. He revealed that 425 people were killed and 420 others injured as a result of these military actions over the past 33 years.
Othman emphasized that the Turkish Armed Forces are responsible for approximately 83% of civilian casualties in the region, with 344 people killed and 385 others injured due to Turkish military operations. He also noted that the Iranian Revolutionary Guard forces accounted for 17% of the human losses, with 81 people killed and 62 injured as a result of Iranian bombing since the beginning of the Iran-Iraq War up until 2024.
