TURKEY: Faithful gather in Tur Abdin to celebrate Feast of the Assumption of Virgin Mary
MEDYAD, Turkey — Every year, Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) Christians around the world gather to celebrate the feasts of their saints. This year was no exception as many of the faithful celebrated the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary at the Syriac Orthodox Church of the Virgin Mary in Medyad (Midyat), Turkey, in the historic Tur Abdin region.
The service drew a large crowd of local worshippers, as well as visitors from various European countries.
It began with a solemn mass led by Father Isaac Ergun, accompanied by deacons and a large congregation of believers. In his sermon, Father Ergun expressed his gratitude to those in attendance and spoke about the significance of the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the tradition of celebrating the feasts of saints.
The event concluded with hymns performed by the church’s deacons and students, leaving the congregation uplifted and spiritually renewed.
