Syriac Orthodox Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II leads Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary liturgy in Toronto
TORONTO, Canada — During his visit to Canada, Syriac Orthodox Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II presided over the Divine Liturgy on the Feast of the Assumption celebrated by Patriarchal Vicar in Canada, Archbishop Mor Athanasius Elijah Bahi, at the Coptic Orthodox Cathedral in Toronto.
The liturgy was attended by members of Syriac Orthodox parishes across Ontario, along with Melkite Greek Catholic Archbishop of North America Mor Titus Yeldho and Patriarchal Secretary Mor Augeen al-Khoury Nemat.
In his sermon, Patriarch Aphrem II emphasized the significance of the Feast of the Assumption and the apostolic tradition that conveys the teaching about the death of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
