Syriac Catholic Mar Youhanna Church in Baghdede, Iraq, hosts spiritual hymn evening celebrating Sun of Faith Choir’s 38th anniversary

BAGHDEDE, Iraq — In celebration of the 38th anniversary of the Sun of Faith Choir, Mar Youhanna Church (St. John the Baptist Church) held a spiritual hymn evening titled “Start Again” in the Nineveh Plains towns of Baghdede (Qaraqosh / Hamdaniyah), Iraq.

The event was attended by Syriac Catholic Archbishop of Mosul and its Environs Mar Younan Hinno, along with priests, nuns, and a large gathering of the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian community.

The evening began with a speech by Father Daniel Sabbagh, who described the event as a “love story” imbued with the spirit of renewal, exaltation, and praise in the Lord’s service. “Today, the sun shines for us from Mar Youhanna Church through melodies and praise to the Lord,” he remarked.

The Sun of Faith Choir performed more than 10 hymns in Arabic and Syriac, captivating the audience for about an hour. On behalf of the choir, singer Hiba Quryo expressed gratitude to those who supported the event.

Founded in 1986 under the supervision of singer Bushra Bataq, the Sun of Faith Choir is currently composed of 40 singers and musicians and is now led by Atheer al-Jameel.
