Syriac Maronite Patriarch al-Rai and Syriac Catholic Patriarch Younan discuss Middle East challenges and Christian presence in Dimane meeting

DIMANE, Lebanon — On Wednesday evening, Syriac Catholic Patriarch Mar Ignatius Youssef III Younan Syriac Maronite Patriarch Mar Bechara Boutros al-Rai at the Maronite Patriarchal See’s summer residence in Dimane, Lebanon.

During their meeting, the two patriarchs engaged in a deep discussion about the current state of affairs in Lebanon and across the Middle East, with a particular focus on Syria and Iraq. They expressed concern over the future of the Christian presence in the region amidst ongoing challenges, including the escalating war in the Holy Land and southern Lebanon, and the looming threat of a broader conflict in Lebanon.

The patriarchs also emphasized the importance of the Church’s role in supporting the faithful during these trying times, urging adherence to ecclesiastical and humanitarian values. They highlighted the need for the Church to stand by its followers, helping them navigate crises, confront poverty, and remain steadfast in their faith despite the difficult circumstances.
