Christian Front in Lebanon urges sovereign action and federal system to counter Hezbollah influence
BEIRUT — Following its weekly meeting, the Christian Front in Lebanon issued a strong statement renewing its call for sovereign parties and their parliamentary blocs to officially demand the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1559. The resolution, which calls for the disarmament of all militias and the preservation of Lebanon’s sovereignty, is seen by the Front as crucial to preventing Lebanon from being handed over to the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militia at the negotiating table.
The Front also urged Christian religious parties and authorities to advocate for the establishment of a federal system, describing it as the ideal solution for all of Lebanon’s diverse communities. The statement emphasized that if this proposal is rejected by Lebanon’s political partners, the country must consider exercising its right to self-determination for the sake of the free Lebanese people.
The Christian Front accused Hezbollah of relentlessly pursuing Iran’s agenda and expansionist ambitions in the Middle East, often at the cost of Lebanese lives, including those from Sunni, Christian, and Druze communities.
The Front called on members of the Shiite community, particularly those in southern Lebanon, to resist Hezbollah’s influence and cease sending their children to die for what it described as Iran’s “false projects.”
