Governor of Nineveh in Iraq confirms rebuilding ISIS-destroyed churches in Mosul
NINEVEH, Iraq — The Iraqi Governor of Nineveh Abdul Qader al-Dakhil stated that Mosul is a city of diverse ethnic components and Christians are its original inhabitants.
He stressed the insistence of the Nineveh local government on continued reconstruction of the churches that were destroyed by the Islamic State (ISIS), as part of the complementary and guaranteeing preparations for the return of the Christians to their areas in the old city.
Al-Dakhil added that the local government is keen to restore the original spirit to the famous churches and monasteries of Mosul, after completing the reconstruction of the first largest Christian church in the Hosh al-Bay’a area, which has an ancient history and a great legacy dating back more than 1400 years.
Al-Dakhil declared that the local government has made great efforts in rebuilding a large number of historical and archaeological churches, calling on the Christians to return to their areas.
