Syriac heritage celebrated at 4th Annual Mardutho Festival in North and East Syria

ZALIN, Syria — The second day of the 4th Annual Mardutho Festival took place in Azadi Park in Zalin (Qamishli), North and East Syria.

The festival was attended by representatives from the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB), the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES), and the DAARNES Culture and Art Authority in the Gozarto (Jazira) Canton.

The event featured artistic, folkloric, and musical performances showcasing the rich heritage of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people.

In comments to our news desk, Ruba al-Frehat, an official from the Naum Faeq House of the Syriac Cultural Association, stated that the festival reflects the culture and deep-rooted history of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people, preserved for thousands of years through folklore and heritage songs.

Ferial Jole, Co-Chair of the DAARNES Culture and Art Authority in North and East Syria, emphasized the importance of preserving cultural traditions, with support from the Culture and Art Authority, which respects the cultures of all peoples.



She praised the Syriac Cultural Association for its significant efforts in enriching the festival, highlighting that the event is a source of pride for the Authority and everyone involved in the cultural sector.

Jole reaffirmed the Authority’s support for the Syriac Cultural Association and the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people.

At the conclusion of the festival, all participants, including bands, choirs, and singers, were honored by the Administrative Body of the Syriac Cultural Association and the Co-Chair of the DAARNES Culture and Art Authority in North and East Syria.
