Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem calls for urgent humanitarian aid for Christians affected by conflict in Gaza

GAZA STRIP — The Latin Patriarchate in Jerusalem issued an urgent appeal for humanitarian assistance, highlighting the dire needs of Christians who have been severely impacted by the ongoing 11-month conflict between Israel and Hamas.

The Patriarchate noted that, following the COVID-19 crisis, Christian families have faced even greater challenges due to the war in Gaza, suffering from significant financial and material hardships as their sources of income have been disrupted.

In response to these challenges, the Patriarchate has taken extensive measures to support Christian families.

Pierbattista Pizzaballa, the Patriarch of Jerusalem, spoke about the devastating impact of the prolonged conflict on the residents of the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and Jerusalem.

“We are accustomed to crises and wars, but such a prolonged conflict is a new experience, and it has had a profound effect on the population,” he said.

He highlighted that the Church has managed to assist 279 men and women by securing job opportunities and has provided food, health, and educational aid to 12,000 families.

While expressing gratitude to the countries and organizations that have offered support, Pizzaballa emphasized the ongoing urgent need for more assistance to ensure the survival of Christians in the Holy Land.
