Samir Geagea condemns Hezbollah’s control over Lebanon’s war decisions, calls for immediate end to conflict
BEIRUT — Amid escalating tensions in southern Lebanon, leader of the Lebanese Forces party Dr. Samir Geagea sharply criticized the Iranian-backed Hezbollah for seizing control of Lebanon’s sovereignty and monopolizing decisions of peace and war. Geagea emphasized that the Lebanese people do not want war and that the government has been sidelined in these critical decisions. He warned that war serves no benefit to Lebanon, drawing parallels to the ongoing suffering in Gaza, where conflict has only exacerbated the hardships faced by its residents.
Geagea urged an immediate halt to the conflict involving Hezbollah before it spirals into a broader war. He called on the Lebanese government to demand that Hezbollah cease its military actions, asserting that the militia alone will bear full responsibility for the consequences if the hostilities continue.
Since the escalation of hostilities between Hezbollah and Israel, multiple political forces in Lebanon, including Geagea, whose party holds the largest bloc in the Lebanese parliament, have condemned Hezbollah for opening a new front against Israel from southern Lebanon. These leaders argue that Hezbollah’s unilateral actions threaten to drag the entire country into a devastating conflict.
