Spanish women launch petition to prosecute Taliban for violations against Afghan women

KABUL — In response to the Taliban’s violations against women in Afghanistan, a group of Spanish women have launched a petition calling for the prosecution of the Taliban.

The petition, which has garnered a thousand signatures from journalists, actresses, university professors, lawyers, and other professionals involved in international forums, demands justice for Afghan women and girls.

The statement issued by the petition highlighted that women worldwide, from diverse backgrounds and professions, are outraged by the situation in Afghanistan. They call for global solidarity in support of Afghan women and girls, urging the international community to amplify their voices.

The petition underscores that Afghan women are living under a repressive regime that strips them of basic human rights, subjecting them to repression, violence, harassment, and constant humiliation. The signees demand guarantees for the protection of women’s rights in Afghanistan.

Since regaining power three years ago, the Taliban has tightened its control over Afghanistan, imposing severe restrictions on society, particularly on women. Women have been barred from education, employment, moving freely without a male escort, and even visiting parks. Most recently, they were prohibited from speaking in public spaces.
