TURKEY: World Council of Arameans to host historic celebration for restorations of church in Iwardo

IWARDO, Turkey — In the coming days, the World Council of Arameans will hold a special celebration marking the restoration of the historic churches of Iwardo in the historic region of Tur Abdin in what is now southeastern Turkey. This event, the first of its kind, will take place on 7 September at 17:00.

The celebration will feature musical performances by artists Yusuf Saliba and Yakob Aydin, and valuable gifts will be distributed. The Council has extended an invitation to Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) communities, both at home and abroad, particularly the Iwardo diaspora.

In preparation for the event, the Iwardo community recently gathered for an evening of food and drink, organized by Shukri Lahdo and Shahin Shahin. During the gathering, attendees discussed the preparations for the upcoming celebration.
