Former US-led International Coalition spokesperson Miles Caggins highlights North and East Syria as model for democratic future of Syria
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — In an interview with North Press Agency, former US-led International Coalition spokesman Miles Caggins shared his observations on the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES), suggesting they could serve as a blueprint for Syria’s future.
He emphasized the strategic importance of regions like Dayrik (Derik), Cafrin (Afrin), and Raqqa, noting their potential to shape Syria’s future on the basis of a confederal democratic system, which aligns with UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
Caggins also addressed the 2019 Turkish invasion of Tel Abyad and Rish Ayno (Ras al-Ayn), where Turkish forces and their Syrian National Army (SNA) proxies seized control. He called for a united front among all forces to combat terrorism and prevent its resurgence.
Furthermore, Caggins highlighted the complexity of the Syrian conflict, pointing to the various armed groups operating in the country. These include Iranian militias in the Syrian desert, Russian forces, the Islamic State (ISIS) sleeper cells, Turkish-backed mercenaries along the northern border, and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which continue their efforts to combat ISIS in the region.
