Jordan closes King Hussein Bridge after deadly shooting incident
AMMAN — Following a deadly shooting incident at the King Hussein Bridge on the Jordan-West Bank border that left three Israeli soldiers dead, the Jordanian Public Security Directorate announced the temporary closure of the bridge to all passenger and freight traffic. The closure affects both departing and arriving travelers, as well as goods.
A spokesperson for the Public Security Directorate confirmed that the bridge will reopen for travel on Monday at 10:00 AM, although it will remain closed to freight traffic until further notice.
The shooting resulted in the deaths of three Israeli soldiers and occurred against the backdrop of the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas in the Gaza Strip, which began last October.
In Gaza, Muhammad Morsi, Deputy Director of Civil Defense in northern Gaza, and four members of his family were killed in an Israeli airstrike that targeted a home in Jabalia. The Palestinian Civil Defense confirmed that Morsi’s death brings the total number of its personnel killed in the conflict since 7 October to 83.
Meanwhile, Israeli Channel 12 reported that a senior member of Israel’s negotiating team informed the families of hostages that a ceasefire agreement is unlikely in the near future. The negotiations face significant political hurdles.
