Turkish attacks damage 20 schools in Tel Tamr, North and East Syria, disrupting education for thousands of children
TEL TAMR, North and East Syria — Khidir al-Alewi, Co-Chair of the Schools Administration in Tel Tamr, North and Easst Syria, stated that Turkish attacks have caused complete or partial destruction to approximately 20 schools.
In an interview with North Press Agency, al-Alewi explained that the Turkish assaults have forced thousands of residents to flee their villages, seeking refuge in schools being used as shelters, which has further impacted the educational process.
He emphasized that the administration is struggling to accommodate all students in qualified schools, particularly in areas continuously targeted by Turkish shelling. The distance and safety concerns make it difficult for parents to send their children to other schools to continue their education.
The 2024/2025 academic year began on 8 September for schools under the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES), with nearly one million students enrolled.
