Pope Francis leads Mass for 600,000 in East Timor, calls for sacrifice and service
DILI — During his visit to South and Southeast Asia, Pope Francis led a Divine Liturgy in East Timor capitol of Dili, drawing a crowd of approximately 600,000 people. In his homily, the Pope urged the faithful to dedicate their lives, time, and what brings them the most joy to serving others.
He also called on attendees to pray that they might reflect the radiant love of God, who lifts up the poor and places them among the mighty.
Earlier in his visit, Pope Francis met with bishops, priests, deacons, and religious educators. He was warmly received at the Dili Cathedral by Cardinal Virgilio do Carmo da Silva, Archbishop of Dili, and Monsignor Norberto do Amaral, head of the country’s bishops’ conference.
