Syriac Orthodox Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II celebrates Divine Liturgy in Montreal, honoring Feast of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary

MONTREAL — Syriac Orthodox Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II celebrated a Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of Our Lady and St. Jacob of Nisibis in Montreal, Canada.

The Patriarch was assisted by the Patriarchal Vicar in Canada, Mor Athanasius Elia Bahi.

In his sermon, the Patriarch extended greetings to the congregation on the Feast of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary. He highlighted the significance of feasts dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary, particularly the day of her birth, noting that the Church only celebrates the births of the Virgin Mary and St. John the Baptist.

The Patriarch spoke of Mary’s virtues, her vital role in Christ’s journey, and her intercession, encouraging believers to follow her example and seek her prayers.

Following the Divine Liturgy, the Patriarch met with the congregation, offered blessings, and joined them for a meal in the church hall.
