European Syriac Union invites Syriacs–Assyrians around the world to join in celebration of 20th anniversary of Suroyo TV
TUR ABDIN / GERMANY — The 20th anniversary of the founding of Suroyo TV is approaching, with celebrations set to take place for the first time in the historic region of Tur Abdin in what is now southeastern Turkey. The European Syriac Union (ESU) issued a call on its Facebook page encouraging Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) communities from across Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia) and around the world to join in this year’s festivities.
The celebration in Tur Abdin will be held on 15 September in the city of Medyad (Midyat), Turkey, with the event in Giessen, Germany, scheduled for 5 October. These celebrations are seen by the ESU as vital to fostering unity among the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people.
In its statement, the European Syriac Union emphasized that the 20th anniversary of Suroyo TV is a momentous occasion, celebrating the channel’s dedication to broadcasting programs aimed at unifying the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community. The ESU urged the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) diaspora to participate and further help develop the channel, which has played a key role in preserving and promoting Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) culture and media.
The preparatory committee confirmed that preparations for the event are complete, with the Akito Hotel in Medyad expected to be packed with celebrants. The event, beginning at 8:30 PM, will feature speeches, performances by artists Murad Karam and Okin Tadars, and interviews with attendees.
The ESU expressed its hope that Suroyo TV will continue broadcasting for many years, further strengthening the culture and heritage of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people.
