Feast of the Cross celebrations continue in Alqosh with hymns, competitions, and handicrafts

ALQOSH, Iraq — In an atmosphere filled with joy, the Chaldean–Syriac Assyrian people in the Nineveh Plains town of Alqosh, Iraq, celebrated the second day of Feast of the Cross. The celebration was attended by Chaldean Archbishop of Alqosh Mar Boulos Thabet, Rector of Our Lady Monastery Father John Nicholas, along with monks, nuns, and a large gathering of believers.

The day began with an opening prayer, followed by welcoming speeches from Father Rudy al-Saffar. The choir of Christ Child then performed hymns, adding to the spiritual ambiance.

Father Suleiman Hanna hosted several competitions for both adults and children, including a contest for the most beautiful cross, which was won by Sevan Sakmani. The festival also featured handicraft demonstrations, teaching participants how to make crosses out of paper.

The celebration concluded with a meal prepared by the Brotherhood of Mary, the Brotherhood of St. Abdul Ahad, and women from the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian community.
