Bethnahrain Patriotic Union commemorates 55th anniversary of Soria Massacre
ANKAWA, Kurdistan Region of Iraq — The Bethnahrain Patriotic Union Party in Iraq (Huyodo d-Bethnahrin Athroyo, HBA) issued a statement marking the 55th anniversary of the Soria Massacre, in which the Baathist regime of Iraq killed dozens of innocent Christian Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian villagers in Soria, Nohadra (Dohuk) Governorate.
The HBA statement commemorated the victims of the massacre, denouncing the chauvinistic and criminal actions of the Iraqi Baath regime at the time. The party emphasized that the Soria Massacre was part of a series of atrocities targeting the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian people, including the 1933 Simele Massacre, the 1915 Sayfo Genocide, and the brutal acts of the Islamic State (ISIS) in 2014.
HBA urged the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian community in Iraq to learn from these tragic events and stand united to safeguard their homeland and assert their national, religious, and cultural rights in a democratic, pluralistic, and federal Iraq.
The statement also highlighted that these massacres only strengthen the community’s resolve to claim their rights and achieve self-management, following the repeated failures of previous Iraqi governments to deliver justice.
