Syriac Orthodox Patriarchate: His Excellency Ginoacchino Collica is not a member of Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch’s hierarchy
DARAMSUQ — In a letter signed by the Syriac Orthodox Patriarchal Assistant Archbishop Joseph Bali, the Patriarchate of Antioch certified that His Excellency Ginoacchino Collica is not a member of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch’s hierarchy nor does he represent it in any way.
The Patriarchate added that Collica had requested to join Syriac Orthodox Church. However, after careful review of his application and subsequent materials, he was informed in August 2021 that the Syriac Orthodox Church is presently not ready to receive him into the Church.
“He was instructed not to present himself as a member of the Syriac Orthodox Church, nor use the vestments specific to our clergy, or claim that his ministry is part of the Syriac Orthodox Church,” the Patriarchate added.
The brief letter did not contain information about the identity of Collica, the reason for his desire to join the church and the reason why the church rejected his request.
