Syriac Union Party in Syria founded in response to Syriac people aspirations
ZALIN, Syria —The Syriac Union Party (SUP) in Syria issued a statement on the 19th anniversary of its founding.
“The SUP was founded in response to the demands and aspirations of the Syriac-Assyrian people in Syria. The SUP charted its path of struggle to obtain the usurped rights of the Syriac (Aramean-Chaldean-Assyrian) people, amid the tragic and bitter situation experienced by Syriac (Aramean-Chaldean-Assyrian) people and all ethnic components in Syria, under the chauvinistic and tyrannical rule that dominated power in Syria for decades. We extend our warmest congratulations to all SUP members and supporters, as well as Syriac people and families of Syriac martyrs,” read the SUP statement.
The SUP stressed continued commitment to walk the path of struggle and freedom, which was enhanced with the blood of Syriac heroic martyrs who sacrificed their lives to defend their people and homeland.
The SUP added that all international efforts aimed at achieving political transition in Syria have failed, and the Syrian people are still suffering from dire security, military and economic consequences that exacerbated their suffering, migration and displacement. In addition, regional and international interventions and conflicts on Syrian soil have further complicated the Syrian issue and moved it outside the international community agendas.
The SUP emphasized activating the political solution in accordance with UN international resolution no. 2254, which was agreed upon by all major powers, indicating that what harmed the Syrian people is the Turkish and Iranian interventions, that supported the terrorist factions and groups.
The SUP called on all democratic Syrian forces to converge and prioritize the interests of people and homeland.
“We emphasize the importance of preserving the gains made in North and East Syria and considering them for the sake of Syrian people in general, as well as for developing the Autonomous Administration and increasing supporters within all other political components towards reaching a unified, democratic, federal, pluralistic Syria. In addition, the political forces and all ethnic components agree on a new constitution that guarantees rights and freedoms,” read the SUP statement.
The SUP pledged continued work to unify the visions of all political, civil and religious forces, towards forming a unified front to represent and defend the issue of Syriac people in Syria and obtaining their legitimate rights.
