Bethnahrin Patriotic Union Party in Iraq demands including Akitu on Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage
ERBIL — The Bethnahrin Patriotic Union (Huyodo d-Bethnahrin Athroyo, HBA) in Iraq demanded including Babylonian Syriac–Assyrian New Year, Akitu, on Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage, since Akitu is a cultural heritage that the HBA is keen to preserve and pass on to future generations.
In a statement, the HBA confirmed its readiness to provide the UNESCO with all the required information.
The HBA hoped that UNESCO will approve including the Akitu, because of its importance in strengthening the national unity among the Iraqi people, with all its ethnic components.
Akitu is the oldest in the history of mankind, and it is celebrated on 1st April every year.
