Suroyo TV celebrates 20th anniversary with gala in Giessen, Germany

GIESSEN, Germany — The 20th anniversary of Suroyo TV was celebrated in a grand event held at the hall of the Mar Ephrem and Mar Theodoros Church in Giessen, Germany. The event featured various activities, including speeches, messages from organizations, and the honoring of individuals and institutions that have supported the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community.

The program was hosted by Shamiram Mecida and Metin Rahawi, who delivered the opening remarks. The celebration began with musical performances by artists Sargon Sharro, Kamil Hanna, and Kima, setting a joyful tone for the evening.

The Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB) congratulated Suroyo TV in a statement on its two decades of broadcasting and highlighted the channel’s significant role in raising awareness of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) cause in the international arena.

Several prominent figures and institutions sent congratulatory messages, acknowledging the channel’s achievements. MUB Official in Sweden Yacoub Mirza delivered a speech reflecting on the development and success of Suroyo TV over the past 20 years, emphasizing its role in unifying the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) voice through its diverse programming and news coverage.

In recognition of their contributions to the community, several individuals and institutions were honored. A lottery was also held, with prizes including a car, a mobile phone, a wall clock, and a jewelry cross.

The celebration concluded with the cutting of a ceremonial cake by the organizing committee, Church representatives, and community leaders. Gratitude was expressed to the attendees, event organizers, as well as the founders and staff of Suroyo TV.

On 15 September, the 20th anniversary of the founding of Suroyo TV was celebrated for the first time in Medyad (Midyat), Turkey, in the historic region of Tur Abdin. The event took place at the Akitu Hotel and was hosted by Shamiram Mecida.
