Syriac Military Council celebrates 9th anniversary of founding of Syrian Democratic Forces, vows to continue struggle for regional stability
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — On the occasion of the 9th anniversary of the founding of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), Mattai Hanna, spokesperson for the Syriac Military Council (Mawtbo Fulhoyo Suryoyo, MFS), extended his congratulations to all the people of North and East Syria.
In comments to Syriac Press, Hanna highlighted that the SDF was formed by young men and women from various ethnic and cultural components of the region, including Syriacs (Arameans–Assyrians–Chaldean), Kurds, Arabs, Armenians, and Turkmen, with the primary goal of combating the Islamic State (ISIS) — a terrorist organization that had seized control of vast parts of Syria and Iraq while major global powers failed to stop its spread.
Hanna emphasized the SDF’s success in all military campaigns over the past nine years, defeating ISIS across the territories it had occupied. He described the SDF as a model for the future Syrian Army, one that reflects the unity and cooperation of all Syrian communities. He noted that the Syriac Military Council played a leading role on the frontlines, standing firm against terrorist groups that sought to incite division in the region.
Hanna proudly pointed out that the Syriac Military Council was among the founding members of the SDF in 2015, alongside other factions committed to shared destiny, free will, and the creation of a democratic army that upholds the brotherhood of peoples and peaceful coexistence.
In his closing remarks, Hanna reassured the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community and all people of North and East Syria that, despite ongoing Turkish violations, the Syriac Military Council will continue its path of struggle, honoring the sacrifices of their martyrs and standing resolute against any efforts to destabilize the region.
The Syrian Democratic Forces were established on 10 October 2015, by uniting several military factions from North and East Syria. Since then, they have waged numerous battles against ISIS, culminating in its military defeat in 2019. The SDF remains a key partner in the international coalition fighting terrorism in Syria.
