Syrian Democratic Council welcomes US extension of state of emergency in Syria
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) welcomed the US government’s decision to extend the state of emergency in Syria for another year.
SDC Co-Chair Leila Karaman stated to North Press Agency that the decision is directly tied to the increasing threat posed by the Islamic State (ISIS), particularly in Dayro Zcuro (Deir ez-Zor), where the group has escalated its activities, exploiting regional instability.
Karaman also noted that a political solution for Syria remains distant, due to regional escalations, particularly in Gaza and southern Lebanon. She emphasized that the US decision will prioritize the ongoing fight against terrorism and prevent extremist groups from capitalizing on regional chaos.
She further criticized the Syrian regime for its lack of readiness to embrace a political solution, despite international pressure. Karaman reiterated the SDC’s commitment to resolving the Syrian crisis in line with international resolutions, particularly UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
The US first declared the state of emergency in Syria five years ago in response to the Turkish invasion of Rish Ayno (Ras al-Ayn) and Tel Abyad.
