Lebanese Forces hosts national meeting “In Defense of Lebanon” as opposition calls for implementation of UNSC Resolution 1559 and disarmament of Hezbollah
MAARAB, Lebanon — In response to the devastating war in Lebanon, which has left the country reeling from death, displacement, and destruction, a national meeting titled “In Defense of Lebanon” was held at the headquarters of the Lebanese Forces party in Maarab. The gathering brought together numerous opposition parties, political representatives, media, and social figures to discuss a roadmap for saving the nation.
The head of the Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP) and General Coordinator of the Christian Front, Ibrahim Mrad, reiterated his call for the full implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1559 and all relevant international resolutions, aiming to end the catastrophic conflict in Lebanon. Mrad called for the disarmament of Hezbollah and the deployment of the Lebanese Army across all towns and villages in the country, emphasizing the urgent need to elect a new President of the Republic.
In his address, Mrad urged patience in electing a new president, suggesting that the priority should be the disarmament of terrorist militias and the stabilization of the country with the deployment of the Lebanese Army, supported by the United Nations and major global powers. He proposed this transitional phase as a necessary step before selecting a new head of state.
Mrad concluded by advocating for the formation of a sovereign, independent government and the election of a similarly independent president. He endorsed Dr. Samir Geagea, leader of the largest Christian parliamentary bloc, as a potential candidate for President of the Republic.
