Prime Minister of Kurdistan Region of Iraq Masrour Barzani lays foundation for two major development Projects in Ankawa

ANKAWA, Kurdistan Region of Iraq — As elections in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI) draw near, and with electoral campaigns in full swing, two major development projects for the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian community in Ankawa were officially launched. The foundation stone-laying ceremonies were attended by the Prime Minister of the KRI Masrour Barzani, alongside local bishops, marking a significant investment in the area’s future.

During the ceremony, Prime Minister Barzani expressed his pride in fostering peaceful coexistence and the values of brotherhood among peoples in the region. He emphasized Ankawa as a symbol of harmony and peace, noting how many residents had been forced to flee from Baghdad, Nineveh Plains, and Syria, only to find safety and security in Ankawa, which has become a haven for Christians. Barzani reiterated his government’s commitment to supporting displaced people who wish to return voluntarily, while also promoting the region’s development.

The first of the two projects will see the construction of 720 homes for low-income or disadvantaged Christian families, providing much-needed housing for those in need.

The second project will be the development of one of the largest parks in Ankawa, financed by the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) Ministry of Municipalities and Tourism. The park will feature recreational facilities, including children’s playgrounds, sports areas, parking lots, and expansive green spaces, creating a community hub for relaxation and enjoyment.

These initiatives reflect the government’s ongoing support for the region’s Christian communities and its efforts to enhance the quality of life for all its residents.
