Newborn trafficking, murder, and state corruption uncovered in Turkey in shocking criminal case
ANKARA — A shocking crime has gripped Turkish headlines, revealing the horrors of a criminal network involved in trafficking newborn babies, killing infants, and embezzling billions from the state treasury. This sinister operation, which emerged amid the slow collapse of the Turkish healthcare system, has led to widespread outrage.
Investigations in Istanbul uncovered a network known as “Yeni Dogan” which exploited vulnerable newborns suffering from illnesses. Working with rapid medical rescue units, the network transported these infants to private hospitals with which they had secret arrangements. However, instead of providing timely care, they intentionally delayed hospital arrivals, extorting illegal payments from the Community Peace Foundation in the process.
A detailed 1,399-page report outlines 197 charges against the network, backed by phone call recordings that provide evidence of the murder of 10 newborns. This investigation, which has been ongoing for over a year, led to the arrest of 22 suspects. The disturbing revelations have sparked intense public debates about the failing health system under the Justice and Development Party (AKP) government.
The full extent of the network remains unclear, and the precise number of infant victims is yet to be determined, leaving the nation in shock and demanding further accountability.
