Universal Syriac Union Party president Ibrahim Mrad urges Hezbollah to halt war and disarm for civilian safety
BEIRUT — In a video statement, Ibrahim Mrad, President of the Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP) in Lebanon, reiterated his party’s repeated appeals to Hezbollah to avoid engaging in the conflict with Israel and to stop endangering civilian lives.
Mrad emphasized that Hezbollah must stay clear of civilian areas and cease storing weapons in residential neighborhoods. He warned that Hezbollah fighters are hiding among civilians, putting all ethnic groups at risk, particularly the Shiite community and the families of fighters.
Addressing Hezbollah’s leadership, Mrad demanded an end to what he described as “criminality and wars,” calling for Hezbollah to surrender its weapons to the Lebanese Army before irreversible damage occurs.
He further stressed the need for Hezbollah to abandon its military ambitions and fully engage in Lebanon’s political process. According to Mrad, Hezbollah’s military strategy has failed, and Iran has ultimately sacrificed Hezbollah’s interests in favor of its own international deals and gains.
