Political parties in North and East Syria urge international action to halt Turkish aggression

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — Thirty-four political parties and entities, including the Syriac Union Party (SUP), jointly called on the people of North and East Syria to support the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region and North and East Syria (DAARNES) and its defense forces in resisting Turkish attacks. The parties appealed to the international community and global powers to intervene and halt Turkey’s aggression, calling for the establishment of a no-fly zone over the region.

The statement highlighted that Turkey’s attacks are systematically dismantling vital civilian infrastructure in North and East Syria to undermine the stability of DAARNES and displace its population. The parties asserted that the Turkish government is intent on marginalizing and eliminating the region’s diverse communities, which it considers a threat.

The coalition of parties emphasized that Turkey’s actions also aim to revive the Islamic State (ISIS), which had been largely defeated through the efforts of the region’s inhabitants. According to the statement, Turkey is attempting to deflect from its internal crises by projecting them onto its neighboring areas.

In their appeal, the parties called on the United Nations Security Council to issue a resolution demanding the withdrawal of Turkish forces from occupied territories. They also urged the United States and Russia to honor their 2019 agreements with Turkey, which sought to limit Turkish military operations in the region.
