Bethnahrin National Council delegation meets Dutch MP Isa Kahraman to discuss Middle East tensions
THE HAGUE — A delegation from the Foreign Relations Department of the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB) visited Syriac Member of Dutch Parliament Isa Kahraman (Nieuw Sociaal Contract, NSC) at his office in The Hague. MP Kahraman was born in Medyad (Midyat), Turkey, in the historic region of Tur Abdin, in 1974.
The visiting delegation, comprising Nazira Goreya, Aver Gabriel, and Sandra Korteweg, discussed critical political developments in Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia) and the broader Middle East.
The meeting addressed rising regional tensions and their effects on local communities, as well as the urgency of finding lasting solutions to ongoing crises. MP Kahraman, a member of the New Social Contract party and the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, shared his expertise on cultural heritage and the representation of minority communities.
Goreya, Gabriel, and Korteweg outlined the mission of the MUB in promoting national unity and safeguarding the rights of Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people in international forums. They highlighted the Council’s dedication to protecting the cultural and political values of their community, underscoring the Council’s active presence on the global stage.
Kahraman emphasized his commitment to supporting the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community’s political aspirations both domestically and internationally. The New Social Contract Party, founded by Dutch politician Pieter Omtzigt in 2023, has recently gained prominence, securing 20 seats in Parliament.
