Syriac Union Party Co-Chair Sanharib Barsom: Turkey’s plans in Syria have failed, so it attacks us in frustration
NORTH AND EAS SYRIA — In response to recent Turkish attacks on vital civilian infrastructure in North and East Syria, Co-Chair of the Syriac Union Party (SUP) Sanharib Barsom criticized Turkey’s aggressive actions, stating in an interview with Syriac Press that Turkey’s aim is to dismantle the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria following its failed policies in the region.
Barsom highlighted that the Turkish government’s previous plans in Syria have collapsed, leading it to shift its approach by cooperating with the Syrian regime, ceding some areas, and compensating for its losses by intensifying strikes on North and East Syria. While he acknowledged that these tactics might yield short-term effects, he asserted that they will not succeed in the long run, pointing to the resilience of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) and other peoples of the region.
He called on the US-led International Coalition to fulfill their obligations to the people of North and East Syria, who sacrificed greatly to defeat the Islamic State (ISIS), and protect them from Turkish aggression. Barsom warned that continued Turkish violations would lead to further displacement and suffering. He reaffirmed the Syriac Union Party’s solidarity with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and DAARNES, describing them as vital guarantors of regional security and stability, and strongly denounced the recent brutal attacks.
