US and allied forces strike ISIS targets in Iraq and Syria, killing senior leaders and disrupting operations
SYRIA / IRAQ — US forces, alongside their partners in Iraq and Syria, have conducted multiple operations against terrorist targets in recent months. The US Central Command reported targeting several Islamic State (ISIS) sites in the Syrian desert, including key ISIS leaders, in a series of airstrikes that killed 35 militants and disrupted ISIS’s capacity to organize, plan, and execute attacks against civilians, US allies, and partners across the region and beyond.
Last week, a joint operation by US and Iraqi forces resulted in the deaths of nine terrorists, including a senior ISIS commander. Similarly, a joint operation at the end of August in the western Iraqi desert eliminated 14 ISIS militants.
In efforts to bolster military support and enhance capabilities, the US has deployed additional reinforcements. A cargo plane carrying heavy weapons and logistical equipment arrived at Kharab al-Jir base in the Rmelan countryside, north of Hasakah, while helicopters provided aerial security. Meanwhile, another US-led International Coalition cargo plane delivered military supplies to the Shaddadi base in southern Hasakah.
