Syriac Orthodox Archbishop Mor Maurice Amsih leads Mass and ordains deacons in celebration at Mor Dudu Church in Dayrik, North and East Syria
DAYRIK, North and East Syria — On Sunday, Syriac Orthodox Archbishop of Gozarto (Jazira) and Euphrates Mor Maurice Amsih presided over a Divine Mass at the Syriac Orthodox Church of Mor Dudu in Dayrik (Derik), North and East Syria. Joined by diocesan priests from surrounding cities and towns, he celebrated the consecration of the church, honored the dedication of church priest Dudu Murad, and ordained new deacons in a solemn ceremony attended by many local believers.
In an interview with Suroyo TV, Archbishop Amsih shared that the celebration included the ordination of 20 deacons and the imitation of the Holy Cross by Father Dudu Murad, in recognition of his more than ten years of service to the Church. He described the event as deeply spiritual, with participants including clergy and faithful from Zalin (Qamishli), Hasakah, Qabre Hewore (Qahtaniyah), Darbasiyah, and Dayrik.
During the Mass, the Archbishop offered prayers for peace and security across the region, expressing particular gratitude to the church council in Dayrik and to the families of the newly ordained deacons. The event concluded with warm congratulations extended to Father Murad and the deacons by the bishop, fellow priests, and attendees, marking a significant occasion for the Syriac Orthodox community.
