Turkey calls on UN to halt arms shipments to Israel, Israel condemns move as ‘malicious’

ANKARA / TEL AVIV — Turkey has called on the UN Security Council to halt the supply and delivery of weapons to Israel, a move that Israel swiftly condemned as “malicious.”

Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon stated that Turkey’s proposal aims solely to provoke conflict in the region, aligning with what he termed an “axis of evil,” referring to the 52 countries that supported Turkey’s initiative. Danon dismissed the move as “ridiculous,” asserting that these nations do not uphold values of justice and morality.

He pledged to continue defending Israel’s interests against any political or military threats and also renewed his criticism of the UN.

Turkey’s Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, announced last Sunday that he had submitted a joint letter to the UN, signed by over 50 countries and organizations, demanding an end to arms shipments to Israel.
