Lebanon’s Christian Front calls for full implementation of UNSC Resolutions 1559 and 1701
BEIRUT — The Christian Front in Lebanon urged Lebanese politicians, parties, MPs, authorities, and decision-makers to fully implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701 by also addressing the provisions of UNSC Resolution 1559. The Front warned against interpreting Resolution 1701 as merely requiring Hezbollah’s withdrawal to the north of the Litani River, stressing that most Lebanese seek an independent, capable, and sovereign state.
The Christian Front called on the international community to implement UNSC Resolution 1559 under Chapter VII, which includes disarming Hezbollah and Palestinian organizations, transferring weapons to the Lebanese Army, and ensuring the election of a Lebanese president free from coercive influences. The Front also condemned Iran’s destabilizing activities in the Middle East, Gulf, and beyond, asserting that these efforts harm security and stability globally, including in Africa, Europe, and the US.
Additionally, the Christian Front appealed to the international community, especially the US, to support Lebanon’s security and stability as a bridge for peace between East and West. It demanded the prosecution of Hezbollah’s political, military, and security leaders on charges of high treason, barring them from returning to politics or public affairs.
