Security operation launched in Al-Hol Camp in North and East Syria to suppress ISIS cells
AL-HOL, North and East Syria —With the support of the US-International Coalition, the Internal Security Forces (ISF), Women’s Protection Units (YPJ), and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) launched a joint operation named “Permanent Security” targeting Islamic State (ISIS) cells within and around the Al-Hol Camp in North and East Syria. The operation was initiated after increased ISIS activity and attacks by sleeper cells in the camp and its surrounding areas.
In an official statement, military leaders highlighted that, over the past year, they have carried out multiple successful operations to disrupt and dismantle terrorist networks in the area. These efforts have prevented ISIS from destabilizing the region or conducting terrorist attacks against civilians and security forces.
ISIS routinely targets Al-Hol Camp and the region’s prisons to incite chaos and free its extremist members. With global attention divided by conflicts in the Middle East, ISIS is reportedly exploiting remote areas to stage attacks aimed at reuniting fighters with family members in the camp.
The forces leading the Permanent Security operation reiterated their commitment to tracking and neutralizing ISIS operatives, maintaining their stance against terrorism, and ensuring the operation’s success.
In related news, the Yezidi Rescue Office announced the return of a Yezidi woman to her family after she was abducted along with thousands of other Yezidi women and girls during ISIS’s 2014 attack on Shigur (Shengal / Sinjar). Hussein Qaidi, head of the rescue office, confirmed that investigations into the remaining abductees’ whereabouts continue under the direction of Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani.
