Universal Syriac Union Party, Syrian Opposition Coalition, and Syrian Democratic Forces congratulate President-Elect Trump, express hopes for stability in Middle East

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA / BEIRUT / ISTANBUL — Following his victory over US Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential election, US President-Elect Donald Trump received a wave of international congratulations, notably from leaders and organizations in the Middle East who voiced hopes for enhanced regional stability under his upcoming administration.

Mazloum Abdi, General Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), extended his congratulations via social media, expressing his eagerness to strengthen partnerships with the US to promote stability in Syria and across the region.

Ibrahim Mrad, President of the Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP) and Secretary General of the Christian Front in Lebanon, sent a congratulatory message to Trump, hoping the US would resume its leadership role on critical issues, particularly in combating terrorism, reducing regional tensions, and fostering peaceful solutions in the Middle East.

Mrad expressed optimism that Trump’s administration would advocate for the rights of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people and support democratic systems that uphold pluralism and respect the rights of diverse communities. He also appealed for an end to the political marginalization and persecution faced by these groups on their historic lands in Iraq, Syria, southeastern Turkey, and Lebanon.

Mrad also emphasized the urgent need to restore Lebanon’s sovereignty and highlighted his party’s opposition to the influence of Hezbollah, which he described as a destabilizing force tied to Iran’s strategic interests in the region.

He expressed confidence in Trump’s potential to implement international resolutions — particularly UNSC Resolution 1559, which calls for the disarmament of all militias in Lebanon — and restore peace and stability. Mrad stated his ongoing cooperation with American allies of Lebanese origin who oppose foreign interference in Lebanon’s internal affairs.

Similarly, the Syrian Opposition Coalition congratulated Trump and voiced hope for a more effective US approach to advancing Syria’s political process. Coalition head Hadi al-Bahra expressed his wish that Trump’s policies would support peace efforts in Syria and the wider Middle East, applauding the US democratic process as a testament to people’s power to drive policy change.

Leaders across the region are cautiously optimistic, looking to Trump’s administration for meaningful engagement in Middle Eastern peace and stability efforts.
