Bethnahrin Patriotic Union in Iraq participates in a conference on rejection of Personal Status Law amendments
BAGHDAD— After joining the parties that rejected the draft amendments to the Personal Status Law in Iraq, the Bethnahrin Patriotic Union in Iraq (Huyodo Bethnahrin Athroyo, HBA) participated in “The 188 Alliance” which was held at the Mansour Milia Hotel in Baghdad.
The participating delegation was headed by the HBA Head Joseph Sliwa, Member of the HBA Executive Bureau Marib Imad Hinno.
The conference aimed to unify the demands regarding the rejection of draft amendments to the Personal Status Law which encourages minors’ marriage and religious denominations.
The conference also demanded to permanently withdraw the amendments from the agenda of the upcoming sessions of the House of Representatives.
This conference was attended by many parties that believe in the secularization of the Constitution of Iraq, along with a large number of feminist and civil society organizations, as well as prominent figures from various Iraqi regions.
The conference was concluded with stressing the rejection of these amendments, which are harmful to Iraqi families and rights of women and children, until amendments cancellation.
