Nearly 70% of people killed in Gaza are women and children, says UN
GAZA STRIP — The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk stated that 70 % of the civilians killed during the first 6 months of the war between Israel and Hamas are women and children, including an infant no older than a year and a 97-year-old woman.
According to investigations conducted by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, 8,119 people killed in Gaza from November 2023 to April 2024.
The Palestinian Ministry of Health has reported a death toll of more than 43,300 people over the past 13 months. Many more bodies are believed to remain under the rubble of bombarded buildings.
“This unprecedented level of killing, and injury of civilians is a direct consequence of the failure to comply with fundamental principles of international humanitarian law,” Türk stated.

The Office spokeswoman declared that Israel only allows the transit of medical aid to hospitals.
