European Syriac Union held a seminar on Lebanon in Giessen, Germany
GIESSEN, Germany— The European Syriac Union (ESU) held a seminar on the situation in Lebanon, at 4:00 p.m., in Hall of Mor Afrem and Mor Theodoros Church in Giessen, Germany.
The ESU officials in Giessen have already sent invitations to Syriac people in Giessen to attend the seminar.
The seminar was moderated by members of the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB), along with President of the Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP) in Lebanon and Head of the Christian Front in Lebanon Ibrahim Mrad, via Skype.
The seminar began with a speech by MUB member Warde Rhawi who spoke about the importance of holding such seminars to raise awareness of Syriac (Aramean-Chaldean-Assyrian) people and introduce them to the situation of Syriac people in Lebanon.
Rhawi welcomed Mrad who talked about tensions in the Middle East, especially the ongoing war between Israel and the pro-Iranian Hezbollah in Lebanon, as well as the effects of that war on the entire region.
Mrad urged the Syriac people in Europe to help Syriac people in Lebanon, defend their rights and contribute to the reconstruction of Lebanon.
Mrad also stressed the readiness of Syriac people to defend themselves in the current circumstances, pointing to the close relations between the USUP and the rest of the Christian and Syriac-Maronite parties in Lebanon.
The MUB member and Coordinator of Europe Aid Campaign for Lebanon Yakub Mirza talked about efforts exerted by the MUB institutions in the homeland and diaspora, role of Syriac people in supporting Syriac people in Lebanon, stressing the need for unity and praising the close relations that unite the political parties and organizations of Syriac people in Europe.
The seminar was attended by 50 people, including activists and politicians from Syriac people in German parties, representatives of the Assyrian Democratic Organization (ADO) and Church Councils.
