Aida Schlafer participates in the Arab-African International Documentary Film Festival in Morrocco

ZAGORA, Morrocco — The Zagora city in Morocco will host the 12th edition of the Arab-African International Documentary Film Festival for 5 days, with special focus on Nordic cinema.

Journalist Aida Schlafer participates in the festival with her documentary, Souls in Transit, which draws connections between the 1915 Sayfo Genocide and the migration and displacement of Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people after the Islamic State (ISIS) took control of Nineveh Plains in Iraq.

More than 110 documentaries from around the world were nominated.

The committee selected only 27 documentaries, including Souls in Transit, to compete the festival.

The documentaries represent countries, including Sweden, Finland, Venezuela, Switzerland, Norway, Iran, Zambia, France, Canada, Oman, Morocco, U.S., England, Italy and Nigeria.

The festival supervisor Hisham Bahfiz stressed that the festival edition constitutes an international, Arab and African cinematic platform to celebrate documentary cinema, by highlighting the life and history of peoples, as well as humanitarian and societal issues.
