Syriac women in Ashtarot House of Syriac Women’s Union in Syria counter all forms of violence against women
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — In comments to the Hawar News Agency, member of the Ashtarot House of the Syriac Women’s Union (SWU) in Syria, Aida Malke, showcased the work of the Ashtarot House.
“After the opening of the Ashtarot Women House, women began to share their problems without fear or hesitation. Previously, women who were subjected to violence were not protected by any party. However, with the establishment of Ashtarot House, they have been protected and the percentage of violence has decreased,” Malke stated.
She noted that the goal of the Ashtarot House is to reach all the women of North and East Syria and protect them from violence.
Malke declared that there are plans to open other Houses for Syriac women in Dayrik (Malikiyah/ Derik) and Qabre Hewore (Qahtaniyah), in addition to holding dialogue seminars and awareness campaigns about the family.
Unresolved women cases are referred to the Women’s Justice House, and Ashtarot Women’s House follows up the cases in the Women’s Justice Council.
The name of the Ashtarot House is after the ancient Mesopotamian goddess, Ishtar.
