European Syriac Union joins Brussels events supporting Lebanese Christians amid regional conflict
BRUSSLES — On 22–23 October, delegations from the European Syriac Union (ESU) participated in two events organized by the Middle East Christians Committee in Brussels, Belgium. These gatherings aimed to support Lebanese Christians facing hardship amid the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Iranian-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon.
The first event, held on Friday, drew an audience of 650 people, who enjoyed a performance by a 30-member choir. Among the attendees was an ESU delegation led by the ESU Co-Chair Fahmi Virgili.
On Saturday, a larger ceremony took place at the National Basilica of the Sacred Heart, with the European Syriac Union delegation also in attendance. The events underscored the solidarity of Middle Eastern Christian communities with those enduring difficult conditions in Lebanon.
The Middle East Christians Committee, established during the Islamic State (ISIS) occupation of Nineveh Plains, includes representatives from Middle Eastern Churches and Churches in Belgium. In collaboration with the European Syriac Union, the committee has previously organized initiatives to support those in Nineveh, raising funds and distributing aid to those in need.
Although the Committee has since ceased regular operations, these recent events were revived with encouragement from Dr. Simon Najm and the Catholic Church in Belgium, reflecting a renewed commitment to providing assistance to Middle Eastern Christian communities.
