UN Envoy Rochdi highlights humanitarian impact of Turkish attacks on North and East Syria
NEW YORK — During a briefing to the UN Security Council on Syria, UN Special Envoy Najat Rochdi highlighted the devastating human and infrastructural impact of Turkish attacks on North and East Syria.
Rochdi reported that the ongoing violence has forced a growing number of Syrians into a relentless cycle of suffering, as even the areas serving as refuge for displaced individuals have become targets of attack. She specifically referred to Turkish operations in North and East Syria, which host thousands of internally displaced people from various Syrian regions.
“Syria remains in a state of war and deep division,” Rochdi warned, emphasizing the urgent need to protect all Syrians, both within and beyond the country’s borders.
She underscored the necessity of comprehensive political solutions to address Syria’s political and humanitarian challenges, in line with UN Security Council Resolution 2254. Rochdi also called for the resumption of Constitutional Committee meetings to advance the political process.
