Official of Women’s Authority in North and East Syria highlights progress and challenges on International Day for Eliminating Violence against Women
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — On International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, Syriac Press spoke with Adalat Omar, head of the Women’s Authority in North and East Syria.
Omar began by commending the resilience of women worldwide in their fight for rights. She emphasized that violence against women remains a pervasive global issue, representing one of the most severe violations of human rights. “Women must take a stand not only on this day but every day because violence is a daily reality,” Omar said.
She also detailed the collaborative efforts of women’s movements and organizations in North and East Syria to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Omar noted that their activities have had a positive impact, highlighting a decrease in reported incidents of violence against women this year compared to last year.
Concluding her remarks, Omar underscored the need to strengthen shared visions and collaborative systems to combat violence. She called for continued efforts by women’s movements and organizations to foster a safer, more equitable future for women in the region.
This year’s observance serves as a reminder of both the progress made and the challenges that remain in the ongoing fight to eliminate violence against women globally.
