Pope Francis canonizes Syriac Maronite Saints, Daramsuq celebrates with Divine Mass
DARAMSUQ — Following Pope Francis’ announcement of the canonization of three saints from the Syriac Maronite Church, a Divine Mass was celebrated in the Syriac Maronite Church of Saint Anthony in Bab Touma, Daramsuq (Damascus). The event honored the newly canonized martyrs of Daramsuq, including the revered Syriac Maronite Mesbakite brothers.
The ceremony witnessed a historic moment of Christian unity, with prominent religious leaders in attendance. Among them were the Syriac Orthodox Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II and Melkite Greek Catholic Patriarch Youssef al-Absi.
Cardinal Mario Zenari, the Papal Nuncio in Daramsuq, joined the service, alongside a host of bishops, priests, and monks from various Christian denominations in Daramsuq. Patriarch Aphrem II was accompanied by Patriarchal Assistant Bishop Mar Youssef Bali.
This celebration of faith and martyrdom underscores the enduring spirit of the Christian communities in the region and their commitment to unity amidst diversity.
